Observation Log 4/1/06: The Pleiades Occultation- 3 winks; darn clouds!

After the afternoon rain, the skies cleared quickly and dramatically. Too bad they didn’t stay that way.

Lots of good news. I saw Electra wink out behind a gorgeous Earthlit Moon, and Jan had a moment to peek through the binoculars to watch, too. After that, I saw TYC-1799-79-1 and Merope disappear behind the Moon. It’s quite striking how quickly it happens. Then the clouds closed in, and a little later, low, dark clouds blew in fast. So I broke down the scope and called it a night. All in all, a good night.

Here are some pictures of the occultation from Sky and Telescope. And some more pictures from various astrophographers.
