When will the G5 PowerBooks be available? (Updated 2/11/06)

The original answer came straight from an Apple VP. Now we know: never. Instead, how about a nice, dual-core Intel-based MacBook Pro?

I hear this question from many potential PowerBook buyers. I can’t blame them. The G5 is a great processor. But, even in its latest incarnation, it still consumes too much power and generates too much heat to be practical in a laptop.

Greg Joswiak, Apple VP, Hardware Product Marketing, had this to say in a recent BBC interview: “In the very long run, the G5 is part of our long term processor road map, but it will be some time before that processor will be in a notebook.”
