Observation Log 9/9/04

San Jose CA- a blackout is a happy surprise.

Much to my delight, I got an eyeful during a blackout in San Jose around 10PM PDT. I traced ot all of Triangulum and Lacerta for the first time, and could easily pick out Andromeda (the constellation), Cassiopeia, the top of Perseus (which extends below the horizon, all of Draco(!) all of Cepheus, and a few stars in Aries for the first time: Hamal, Sheratan & Mesarthim. The rest was too low in the haze from the east, even with well-adapted dark vision. Wow!
