Venus reaches maximum brightness 5/3/04.

Venus seen from Earth

If you get a chance in the next few evenings, take a look at Venus. It reaches -4.5 magnitude tonight—even though we’re seeing a waning crescent from our angle, Venus has been getting closer to Earth for a while now. And if you have a telescope, check out a close-up view. The crescent is Moon-like and striking.
