The 1882 Venus Transit- The Movie!

Thanks to modern technology, we get to see the what observers at the time couldn’t- time lapse photography of a Venus transit.

Sky & Telescope ran a fascinating article, Reanimating The 1882 Transit of Venus by Anthony Misch. David Peck Todd took 147 glass negatives of that transit, and they have survived the last 122 years in good condition. Now you can see what is arguably the most complete surviving record of that historic event as a QuickTime movie, either 640×480 pixels or 320×240 pixels (about 4 megabytes and 1.2 megabytes respectively).
