Was Einstein Wrong? (Part 723)

Einstein reflected in the worlds roundest sphereTechnology has finally progressed far enough to test yet another of Albert’s predictions.

It has only taken 45 years to get it off the ground, but a satellite to test two more of Einstein’s predictions should finally make it into space on starting on its April 17 one-second launch window. The experiment, named Gravity Probe B, was designed and built at Stanford. The tests should determine if the Earth’s mass warps and twists spacetime around itself as it rotates, a phenomenon known as frame dragging. The most perfect spheres ever created (on this planet, at least), accurate to within 40 atoms, will someday tell us something profound about the very nature of matter.
